Ukrainian crude steel output in December increased by 3.3%, production of steel pipes declined

3 January 2017

According to preliminary data of Ukrmetallurgprom in Y2016 Ukrainian crude steel output made 24.2M tons, by 5.5% higher than in previous year. This growth followed 16% decline of output demonstrated in Y2015.

Main part of growth is related to the first part of current year (due to effect of low base in H1 2016 steel output grew y-o-y by 11%), while starting from August production dynamics worsened (so that in H2 2016 output has been flat y-o-y). In December daily crude steel output has been on the level of previous months (at about 65k tons). General dynamics during last period of time looked as follows:

On the other side Ukrainian steel pipes production in December made just 65k tons, much lower vs. both previous month and December’15, so that in total in Y2016 steel pipes output has been by 0.8% lower than in previous year (in Y2015 pipes production slumped y-o-y by almost 40%).
