According to APK-Inform by November 18 Ukrainian farmers planted winter grains on more than 6.9M ha, which is by 5% more y-o-y.
Winter wheat is planted throughout 5.9M ha, winter barley – close to 870k ha, winter rapeseeds – about 840k ha. Because of draught in August-September and significant rainfalls thereafter, in Vinnitsa, Zhitomir, Cherkassy and other regions farmers have been forced to postpone sowing campaign, so frequently grains have been planted during far from optimal time frame. As a result they can enter winter period in far from optimal conditions, so be damaged in case of significant drop of temperature in the winter.
On positive side is the fact of sufficient rainfalls and, as a result, level of moisture in soil as of mid-November. It means that if weather in December will be relatively warm and sprouts will further develop, risk of damage in case of winter frosts will decrease.
