By information of agravery.com during last ten years leading Ukrainian sugar producer and exporter decreased natural gas consumption from 51 cubic m per 1 ton of sugar beets processed to 25 cub m.
On average Ukrainian sugar producers use 33 cub m. of natural gas to process 1 ton of sugar beets, so in general Astarta is much more efficient than average Ukrainian producer (bearing in mind Astarta accounts for about 25% of Ukrainian sugar production during last years, operating 8 sugar mills in current season). In MY2016/17 it reduced natural gas consumption per 1 ton of produced sugar vs. previous one by 8% and constantly works on further efficiency improvements.
With this respect leading enterprise of the group is Globyno Sugar Mill, which in MY2016/17 produced 78k tons of sugar (15% of total group production). After realization of biogas project, 50% of its necessity in gas is covered by biogas.
In total in current season Astarta produced about 505k tons of sugar (+42% y-o-y), it is the largest Ukrainian sugar exporter (182k tons, 41% of total Ukrainian sugar export in Y2016). Sugar production dynamics by Astarta during last years looks as follows:
