In August 2017 total Ukrainian steel output made 1.925M tons, which has been slightly higher than in August 2016 and is the largest monthly output value since January of the current year.
Steel output grew by 17% (or by 275k tons) vs. previous months. Average daily output dynamics is represented on the chart below:
Main factor of Ukrainian steel output growth is re-launch of production at DMK in the end of July (this mill has been idle for the last months). Also we note y-o-y growth of production in August by almost 10% at Zaporizhstal (due to repairs work at one of the blast furnaces in H1 2017 the mill reduced steel output at 5%).
As for total January-August 2017 output, it made close to 13.8M tons, which is by 16% lower y-o-y (disregarding production of enterprises situated at non-controlled by Ukrainian government territory of Donbass Ukrainian output declined by less than 10%).
Steel pipes production dynamics remains rather good – in August pipes output has been slightly below local highs of previous two months, but by 21% higher y-o-y (up to 88k tons). For the whole period of 8m 2017 steel pipes production made 691k tons, by 28% more than in corresponding period of Y2016. Output dynamics during last period of time looked as follows:
