Ukrainian crude steel output slumps in February

2 March 2017

According to preliminary data of uaprom.info in February 2017 Ukrainian crude steel output made just 1.711M tons, which is the smallest value since May’15.

Due to negative events which happened in the East of Ukraine (escalation in Avdeevka, which led to coke production disruptions at the largest coke plant in Europe, and railway blockade), February steel output has been by 13% lower y-o-y. Daily output decreased vs. January by 10%.

As a result despite good performance in January (output increased y-o-y by 8.5%), for the first two months of Y2017 total dynamics has been negative – production declined by 2.4%.

In Y2016 total steel output in Ukraine made 24.2 tons (+5.5% y-o-y).

As for pipes production dynamics, after some slowdown in December (65k tons of pipes produced), volume of output returned to growing trend – in January it made 77k tons, in February – 84k tons (which is the highest monthly value for the last months).
