Ukrainian crude steel output stops falling

1 June 2017

According to uaprom.info in May 2017 total Ukrainian steel output made 1.69M tons, which is much lower than in May’16, but is above previous month’s results.

In April steel production in Ukraine made 1.572M tons, so that average daily steel output in May increased vs. previous month by 4%. General daily steel production dynamics during latest months looks as follows:

Reasons of such steel production dynamics are clear: loss of enterprises at the non-controlled by Ukrainian government Donbass territory, non-dynamic raw materials supplies to steel mills situated in Mariupol, repair works at Zaporizhstal, suspension of DMK operations. As for the first reason, it seems to be logical to start to adjust Y2016 results, so that they would not take into account production at enterprises situated at non-controlled by Ukraine territory. In this case production dynamics figures and changes in them would be more relevant for comparison.

For the future we can expect increase of production at Mariupol mills and of Zaporizhstal, while situation with DMK remains uncertain.

As for total January-May output, it made close to 8.8M tons.

Steel pipes production dynamics remains relatively good – in May pipes output made close to 84k tons, by 5% higher than in April and by 19% higher y-o-y. For the whole period of 5m 2017 steel pipes production made 409k tons, by 24% more than in 5m 2016. Output dynamics during last period of time looked as follows:
