Ukrainian grains export digest – August 2017

7 September 2017

In August Ukrainian grains export made 3.9M tons, which has been lower y-o-y.

In last year’s August Ukraine exported 4.5M tons of grains, which means that current season’s value is lower y-o-y by about 0.6M tons.

In reporting month Ukrainian companies actively exported early grains of current season’s harvest. Wheat export made 2.5M tons (by 500k tons lower y-o-y), barley export – 1.2M tons (flat y-o-y).

After rather high value in July (900k tons), which is generally untypical, taking into account seasonality factor, corn export declined to 270k tons (which is though higher than a year ago). Since October 2016 (in Ukraine corn is usually harvested during September-December) total corn export made more than 21M tons.

In money terms Ukrainian grains export in August amounted to almost USD 600M (vs. lower than USD 400M in July).

In total in the first two month of current export season (July-August) grains export from Ukraine made more than 6.4M tons.
