According to Mykola Kovalski, Marketing and Communications Director of Astarta, the company plans to keep sugar production at the level of previous year.

In MY2016/17 the company produced 505k tons of sugar, thereof according to our estimations, about 420-430k tons was produced from own sugar beets, additional 70-80k tons – from 3rd party sugar beets (including tolling scheme).

At the moment only two out of seven Astarta sugar mills started sugar production, taking into account unfavorable weather conditions in some regions of the group operations (notably in Poltava region), sugar beets harvesting campaign of the company has been somewhat postponed.

As a reminder in MY2017/18 Ukrainian sugar production can be estimated at about 2M tons, consumption – 1.4M tons, export is projected to be in the range 300-500k tons (depending on the global sugar market developments).
