According to Ukrstat information, Ukrainian eggs products export remains largely subdued, in March it made just USD 812k (vs. USD 3.3M in March’16), though it is slightly higher vs. lows of previous months.
Basing on latest financial report of Avangard (which despite all financial issues remains the largest shell eggs producer in the country), by the end of Y2016 this company formed on its balance sheet significant eggs products stock, which was supposed to be exported. As Ukrainian exporters are still facing problems with supplies to some important destinations (i.e. Iraq), export remains low which puts downward pressure on eggs processing amounts and, therefore, increases supply of shell eggs on domestic market.
Shell eggs export in March 2017 made 4.7k tons (USD 3.9M), which is somewhat below of February level of 5.1k tons and is approximately at the level of March 2016.
As a result of above-mentioned developments with Ukrainian eggs and egg products export, domestic prices continued to decrease in March – first half of April. In March eggs retail prices in UAH terms declined by 7%, in first decade of April (according to preliminary Ukrstat data) – slumped by additional 14%. Taking into account seasonal factors (growth of non-industrial eggs output in households), without eggs products export recovery it’s hard to expect noticeable growth of domestic prices in short-term period of time.
Ukrainian shell eggs retail price index dynamics since the beginning of Y2015 looked as follows:
