Stagnation of Ukrainian poultry export

14 November 2017

According to customs statistics data, export of Ukrainian poultry in October 2017 made 16.6k tons (USD 28M in money terms), which has been the lowest monthly export figure since January.

In reporting month poultry export was lower vs. both previous month (20.4k tons) and October 2016 (about 21.4k tons).

Positive point – still growing chickens export price – in October it comprised USD 1.69/kg vs. about USD 1.57/kg in August-September and USD 1.45/kg in June-July. Most likely it means that the largest Ukrainian poultry exporter MHP keeps increasing the share of expensive products in its export mix. We can also note that growth of local poultry prices in Ukraine negatively impacted export volumes.

As a reminder, in Y2018 MHP plans to gradually launch new sites at its Vinnitsa complex second stage, which should positively influence total Ukrainian poultry export volumes.

Export dynamics (in k tons) during last period of time looks as follows:

Ukrainian poultry export October 2017

In total since the beginning of Y2017 Ukrainian companies exported 228.6k tons of poultry (USD 323M), which has been by 14% higher y-o-y.

In Y2016 Ukrainian poultry export made about 240k tons (vs. 161k tons in Y2015), which is USD 292.5M in money terms.

Against a background of growing domestic prices, import of poultry into Ukraine grows – in reporting month it already made 14.4k tons (USD 6.3M) vs. lower than 10k tons on monthly average in H1 2017.
