According to customs statistics, since the start of new season Ukrainian companies already exported close to 400k tons of sugar (about USD 260M in money terms).
In January volumes of export decreased vs. previous months to 65k tons (in November it made 112k tons, in December – 130k tons). Despite this fact, taking into account decline of world sugar price in December, holidays in Ukraine in the beginning of January and the fact that main part of sugar refineries in Ukraine finished their production season by the end of December, we see January figure as still quite high.
As in January world sugar price increased again, sugar production in Ukraine in current season was most likely higher than 2.0M tons (it is official figure, possibly there has been some production, not accounted in official statistics), we expect that total Ukrainian sugar export in current season will definitely exceed 500k tons and even reach 600k tons.
Earlier we reported that TOP-5 groups accounted for 80% of Ukrainian sugar export in Y2016: Astarta Holding accounted for more than 40% of total export volume, Ukrprominvest – 24%, Radekhiv-Tsukor – 9%.
