According to customs statistics information in March 2017 sugar export from Ukraine made 89k tons, which means that since the beginning of current season export already exceeded 600k tons.
In money terms export in March amounted to USD 43.4M, since the beginning of the season – more than USD 300M.
Active export expectedly resulted in significant decrease of sugar stocks in Ukraine and growth of domestic sugar prices (by 15-20% during last months). On the other side world sugar price considerably declined, so at the moment Ukrainian export price is below domestic one. It should lead to significant decline of export volumes till the start of new season, which in its turn should restrict further growth of domestic prices.
As a reminder in current season Ukraine broke a new record of its sugar export. Due to growth of export (which led to further increase of sugar producers profitability), it is expected that sown area under sugar beets in Ukraine in new season will increase by 10-15% vs. current season, while sugar production will be at least on the level of Y2016.
