In the first month of new season volume of Ukrainian sugar export has been by more than two times lower than a year ago.
According to customs statistics data in reporting month Ukrainian companies exported 16.7k tons of sugar for the value of USD 6.6M, while in September 2016 sugar export amounted to 40k tons.
Main reasons of lower y-o-y export have been relatively low global sugar price (at the moment it is by 35% lower than a year ago, while because of low stocks as of end of MY2016/17 Ukrainian domestic sugar prices are higher than export ones) and delay with sugar beets harvesting which resulted in some delay in start of sugar production by refineries.
Monthly Ukrainian sugar export dynamics since the beginning of MY2016/17 looks as follows:
In total in MY2016/17 Ukrainian companies exported 770k tons of sugar for USD 379M. Astarta, Ukrprominvest and Radekhiv-Tsukor remain main exporters of Ukrainian sugar, accounting for about 70% of total volume in current season. Other notable exporters have been Teofipolskiy Sugar Plant, Cygnet, Svitanok and others.
Current projections regarding Ukrainian sugar export in new season are in the range of 350-500k tons (depending on global and local prices dynamics). Reportedly up to 250-300k tons of sugar is already contracted for export in new season by the leading Ukrainian producers.
