7 March 2023

Sugar export from Ukraine increased vs. previous month by one-third

In the first two months of Y2023 Ukrainian companies exported 75k tons (for comparison – in the first six months of Y2022 sugar export made just 14k tons).

Sugar export became much more active in October, reasons – sizable stock remaining from previous season and quite good sugar beets yields in Ukraine in Y2022.

Since the beginning of season 2022/23 Ukrainian companies exported 214k tons of sugar. Monthly dynamics looks as follows

Ukrainian sugar export February 2023

In Y2022 total sugar beets harvest in Ukraine made 9.1 mln tons (yield comprised 50 t/ha vs. 47 t/ha a year ago and 41.6 t/ha in Y2020), expected sugar output – about 1.25 mln tons.

In the current season total Ukrainian sugar export can make 300-400 k tons.

In February average sugar export price per 1 ton made about $804 per 1 ton, flat m-o-m (for comparison in Y2022 - $768 per 1 ton). Export price remains quite attractive for Ukrainian producers, so we can expect that in coming months sugar export from Ukraine will remain active.

The biggest sugar producers in Ukraine are Astarta, Ukrprominvest-Agro and Radekhiv-Tsukor.
