In December Ukrainian grains export made 4.9 mln tons

In total since the beginning of MY2022/23 Ukraine exported 22.7M tons of grains vs. 32.2M tons a year ago and 25.8M tons in MY2020/21.

According to preliminary information from Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture, in December 2022 wheat export made 1.6M tons (1.7M tons in November), corn export – 3M tons (2.5M tons in November), barley export – 160k tons (360k tons).

Prolongation of agreement on Ukrainian grains corridor operations till the middle of March is favorable for short-term perspectives of Ukrainian export, at the moment the focus is on issues with insurance of the vessels coming to Ukrainian ports.

On the other side situation with corn harvesting in Ukraine improved. By the end of December Ukrainian farmers harvested corn from 78% of total planned area with the total output of more than 21M tons. During December alone the farmers harvested corn from 18% of total area. As a result volume of grains at risk to be not harvested till spring largely decreased.

It means that under current levels of stock Ukraine can additionally export till the end of the season up to 7-8M tons of wheat and 14M tons of corn.
