1 March 2023
In total since the beginning of MY2022/23 Ukraine exported 32M tons of grains vs. 44.6M tons a year ago and 31.7M tons in MY2020/21.
According to preliminary information from Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture, in February 2023 wheat export made 1.6M tons (1.3M tons in January), corn export – 3.3M tons (2.7M tons in January), barley export – 230k tons (190k tons).
Main reason of exports increase vs. previous months is the fact that exporters try to speed up supplies as "grains corridor" agreement regarding possibility of agricultural products export from Ukrainian deep sea ports is to formally expire in the mid-March and there is an uncertainty regarding its prolongation.
On the other side situation with corn harvesting in Ukraine further improved. By the end of February Ukrainian farmers harvested corn from 95% of total planned area with the total output of almost 27M tons.
It means that under current levels of stock Ukraine can additionally export till the end of the season up to 5-6M tons of wheat and 12-13M tons of corn.
