19 August 2023
As of August 17, about 95% of the total wheat, barley and rapeseed areas in Ukraine have been harvested.
Active harvesting of early grain and oilseed crops is coming to an end in Ukraine, as of August 17, almost 21 million tons of wheat, 5.6 million tons of barley, and 3.9 million tons of rapeseed had been threshed.
A significant part of the regions of Ukraine has already finished harvesting early grains, so in the reporting week the pace of harvesting was significantly lower compared to previous periods.
If 1.1 million hectares of wheat were threshed in the week from August 3 to 10, in the reporting week - twice as much. Also, Ukrainian farmers threshed 135,000 hectares of barley and 55,000 hectares of rapeseed.
As for wheat, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, by August 17, 94% of the total area (4.5 million hectares) has been threshed, a total of 20.8 million tons have been harvested, the average yield has increased to 4.75 tons/ha (as of August 3, when 60% of the area was completed, the average yield was 4.64 t/ha).
During the reporting week, the average yield of wheat was 5.6 t/ha (mainly due to high yields in such regions as Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia and Ternopil).
The distribution of planted areas and yields by main regions, as well as comparisons with previous years, are shown in the table below:
