In April, the volume of steel production by Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises increased by 17% compared to March.
According to data from the Ukrmetallurgprom association, the volume of pig iron production in Ukraine in April 2024 amounted to 597,000 tons, which was 10% higher than last year.
In total, in the first four months of 2024, Ukrainian output of pig iron amounted to 2.2 million tons (+25% compared to the corresponding indicator of 2023).
As for steel production, the April figure was the highest monthly output volume since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. In the reporting month, the volume of production was 715 thousand tons (versus 611 thousand tons in March and 574 thousand tons in April 2023).
First of all, the increase in production in recent months is connected with the gradual increase in the usage of production capacities at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (in 2023, the mill was operating at 20-25% capacity, the plan for the first half of 2024 is to reach 50% capacity utilization).
In the first four months of 2024, the volume of crude steel output in Ukraine amounted to 2.4 million tons, compared to 1.8 million tons in January-April 2023.
In 2023, Ukrainian mills produced 6 million tons of pig iron (-6% compared to last year's figure) and 6.23 million tons of steel (-0.6% compared to 2022).
