After the drop in June caused by the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP and the repair work at Zaporizhstal, in July Ukrainian steel production reached its highest level since the beginning of the year.

AAccording to the preliminary information of the Ukrmetallurgprom association, in July Ukrainian mills smelted 600,000 tons of steel, which is 38% more than in June (436,000 tons). Compared to July 2022, steel production has more than doubled.

In general, from the beginning of the year, the production figures of Ukrainian steel mills improved vs. June, when there was a drop due to the impact of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP on the activities of the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih plant and repair work at Zaporizhstal.

In July, ArcelorMittal started to increase production volumes, while steelmaking at Zaporizhstal reached its highest level since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Regarding the production of pig iron, in July it also increased compared to June - up to 530 thousand tons (487 thousand tons).

In the first seven months of 2023, Ukrainian producers smelted 3.4 million tons of pig iron (-30% compared to last year, due to the high level of production before the full-scale invasion - in January and February 2022), and about the same amount of steel (-29%).
