In January 2024, Ukrainian production of pig iron and steel corresponded to the level of Q4 2023.

According to preliminary information from the Ukrmetallurgprom association, in January 2024 Ukrainian steel mills produced 544,000 tons of crude steel, which is in line with the average output figure since March 2023.

For comparison, in January 2023, only 284,000 tons of crude steel was produced.

Pig iron production in January 2024 was 555,000 tons, on the level of previous month and much higher vs. January 2024 (384 000 tons).

In 2023, total Ukrainian pig iron output made 6 million tons (-6% y-o-y), crude steel - 6.23 million tons (-0.6% y-o-y).

Zaporizhstal plant became the largest producer of crude steel in 2023, the volume of steel smelting of which was 2.5 million tons (with the share of 40% of the total output in Ukraine, +65% vs. Y2022, -34% vs. 2021).
