Since the beginning of the new season, Ukraine has exported 4.6 million tons of grain

3 September 2023

Ukrainian grain exports in August amounted to 2.3 million tons, which is almost the same as the previous month.

According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Agriculture, in August, Ukraine exported 2.3 million tons of grain, of which 1.2 million tons of wheat, 900,000 tons of corn, and 200,000 tons of barley.

Exports in August almost did not differ from the figure of the previous month, but compared to the figure of August 2022, it decreased by almost 300,000 tons. The reason is that in August of the previous year the grain corridors from Ukrainian deep-sea ports (which stopped operating in July’23) were opened.

It is also worth noting that this year, at the beginning of the new season, the stocks of grains of last year's harvest are significantly smaller compared to Y2022, so Ukrainian farmers are in no hurry to sell the grain of the new harvest at the current relatively low prices, hoping for the recovery of Ukrainian deep-sea ports operations and corresponding growth of domestic grains prices.

Among other things, we should note the slow rate of export of barley, which is usually the first grain crop to be actively exported from Ukraine at the beginning of each new season.

The total wheat harvest in Ukraine in 2023 amounted to more than 22 million tons, barley - almost 6 million tons.
