In May 2023 Ukraine exported 3.4 million tons of grains

31 May 2023

In total since the beginning of MY2022/23 Ukrainian grains export exceeded 45M tons, which is still by 3% lower y-o-y.

With the end of the current season approaching (at the end of June) and due to problems with the functioning of the grain corridor from Ukrainian ports, grain exports from Ukraine continue to decline.

According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Agriculture, the volume of Ukrainian grain exports in April 2023 amounted to 3.9 million tons, by 0.5M tons lower m-o-m.

Ukrainian corn, wheat, barley export May 2023

In total, since the beginning of the current season in July 2022, Ukraine exported 45 million tons of grain, which is 3% less than in the corresponding period of the previous season (in the spring the lag from the previous season decreases due to the effect of a low base - in March last year, exports were actually stopped, in April-May its gradual recovery only began).

Since the beginning of the season, 15.5 million tons of wheat were exported (-17% compared to the previous season), 26.9 million tons of corn (+21% due to the export of significant stocks from the record harvest of 2021), 2.6 million tons of barley (-54%).

According to our estimates, the remaining Ukrainian wheat for export at the moment is only about 1.5 million tons, corn - 5 million tons.
